aug 9 marks the birthday of the royal nation - singapore!

(image from singapore infomap)
The national flag is Singapore’s most visible symbol of statehood, symbolising our sovereignty, pride and honour. It reflects the ideals, beliefs and values that we stand by as a nation amidst our rich and diverse make-up. It forms a crucial element of our national identity. — via singapore infomap
it’s meaning:-
The flag consists of two equal horizontal sections, red above white. In the upper left section are a white crescent moon, and five white stars forming a circle. Each feature of the flag has its own distinctive meaning and significance. Red symbolises universal brotherhood and equality of man. White signifies pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. The crescent moon represents a young nation on the ascendant. The five stars stand for the nation’s ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. — via singapore infomap
our pledge:-
We, the citizens of Singapore,
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language or religion,
to build a democratic society
based on justice and equality
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and
progress for our nation.

and the 3rd ict (a.k.a in-camp training), also know un-glamorously as reservist is finally over. it wasn’t as hellish as most army haters would like to say, neither was it a completely bad experience.
in fact, his royal highness would like to say it’s another opportunity to socialize and to increase our contacts.
in additional, it’s a chance to leech on the life experiences of others. everybody talk to everybody in reservist. otherwise, life is boring inside. people from different walks of life, age have to communicate, talk, bond to get things done. otherwise, productive is lower and every spends more time getting the job them. be an anti-social animal, and one would get alienated really fast…
and of course, there’s lots of people with a lot more of life experiences than us in there. most of the time, they are very willing to share them with the others. after all, it’s either to talk a bit, communicate, get bonded, or simply be alienated real fast.
and so, there’s pretty much no choice for them to do otherwise.

and here’s some more parodies of the saf army recruitment posters…
(images shamelessly taken from xl’s facebook account)
are they true? are they not? it depends on the individual.
check out some more parodies of the singapore armed forces here in a previous post.

presenting the second scheduled post:-
and we all used to believe the crap that the location of all the army camps is a BIG secret. because we can’t really find the exact location of any army camp in most good offline or online maps. the best of them probably tells us that there’s a camp in that region, but it doesn’t gives us any more useful information.
well, they say it’s a safety precaution. in case anyone decides to drop a bomb, they have to figure out which unit to bomb, and where they are… after all, in a war, the intelligence section gets the first hit. the transportation, communications, supply services comes a close second after that. rather, they are all equally important (really, just bomb the hospitals… there is no ethics in war.)
well… and then there goes POP! a wiki site that shows us where all the saf camps are appears. it not our give away their names, shows where they are, but ALSO reveals where all the formations, battalions, admins units are… that’s singapore exposed. that’s saf exposed !!!
and based from what his highness knows, it’s fairly accurate…
hmmm….
at least, the secret ammo bases are still safe from mad bombers

and here’s something interesting that his royal highness has decided to re-post (it was first posted here)as a courtesy to those who have no idea what the singapore armed forces (s.a.f) means… do note, the excerpt below is a parody version (and does not represent the personal opinion of his highness)
The Singapore Armed Forces (abbreviated: SAF) is the most powerful military organization in the world because it has never lost a single war. The SAF relies largely on conscripted soldiers and comprises three branches: the Branch That Blows Up Things On Land, the Branch That Blows Up Things In The Air, and the Branch That Blows Up Things In The Sea. The number of active personnel in the SAF is estimated at 60,000,000,000, the most important of which being over 10,000 malingering chao keng kia PES E soldiers who ensure that Generals get their coffee on time and piping hot. It is further estimated that another 100,000 or so soldiers are actually full-time ‘Winning Eleven’ Professionals - with evidence of numerous competitions held within the various divisions (3rd, 6th, 9th).

In Singapore , the majority of us live in Highly Dangerous Buildings (HDB). And most people have already got used to Paying and Paying (PAP).
Not only do you have to pay, you Pay Until Bankrupt (PUB).
If that’s not enough, somebody still Purposely Wants to Dig (PWD) and get more from you.
So what more can you do when you are in the Money Only Environment (MOE)?
With the current Mad Accounting System (MAS), you are forced to Pay the Sum Ahead (PSA). Which will leave some people Permanently Owing Some Banks (POSB).
And forced to live on the Loan Techniques Always (LTA) system. When you fall sick and happen to be admitted to a Money Operating Hospital (MOH),
You might be able to use your Cash Prior to Funeral (CPF) fund.
If you are out of luck, you may meet doctors who Never Use Heart (NUH) to treat you, and you will be Sure to Give up Hope (SGH).
To help ease the traffic, motorists have to pay Cash On Expressway (COE).
If that doesn’t help, they can always Eternally Raise Prices (ERP) on the roads.
If you don’t own a car, you can always make a Bad Rush to the Train (MRT) OR get squashed in a bus Side By Side (SBS).
Lastly, under all these pressures, there are not many places we can relax, not even the good old place we used to go because it has become So Expensive and Nothing To See Actually (SENTOSA)!!!

and those came from a email forwarded by poke.

and his royal highness wonders if there are more acronyms to add on to the never exhausting list.
Sphere: Related Contentmediacorp sandcastle
this is a late entry that was just sitting around in the drafts section of wordpress waiting for discovery.
and so, quite some time ago… there were back-to-back (and to back) cycling sessions @ east coast park (ecp). day zero was self-biking around the estate with his royal self. day one with the boys. day two with an uneven mixture of people. and at the end of three days (plus day zero), a slightly aching rum was born…
—
day zero:-
it proved that his high highness is still an adapt at fixing and maintaining his own bike. a pretty good warm-up for the upcoming two days…
—
day one:-
this was the castle at east cast park that made his highness stole a pause. he stop to admire its beauty and take shade. at that moment, he didn’t realize that the mediacorp sandcastle was just left of it. oops!
it was only on the return journey that he saw the sandcastle in all its glory (or whatever that seems to be left of it, considering it was already falling apart from wear and tear)
—
and his highness wondered. a seemingly nice poem, on a lousy tag board.
enjoy the view,
appreciate what you see,
take time to be still,
for beauty exist only when we care and feel.
—
presenting the mediacorp castle with the ugly tag board
the sandcastle w/o the horrible tag board. this is probably the best photo shoot taken by his highness with his crappy camera phone.
and more pictures of the mediacorp sandcastle from its side
—
the boys wondered why didn’t he want to take pictures with himself or any other humans in it, considering other humans around were doing pretty much there.
then again, his royalness really pictures of scenery to be human-free.
—
and ouch… a fun day at ecp was conquered with a torn pair of shoes. the soles from both sides fell off from all that crazing around.
at least, with the sole off, the shoe weigh a lot lighter… =X
—
and yes, one of his friends is a potential man-in-white. and he’s marching in this year’s NDP contingent. something interesting to note, we were in his car attempting to move out of the carpark. it was a jam. some other moron driver was actually trying to cut lanes. his highness took out his friends’ PAP cap and starting pointing to it. the moronic driver gave way, probably fearful of the logo. his highness continued to wave it.
and we all had laugh.
truly, singaporeans fear the logo more than anything else. why? and we wonder.
—
day two:-
welcome to biking lessons. day spent teaching friend biking. fun. just like the days when his highness was teaching carrotcak and a few more to bike.
nostalgic.
playing some good old arcade games at that run-down arcade with mates.
and due to the lousy camera phone and fast paced of the shooting game, the below image is blurred. still, his royal highness presents SOLID proof why most marksmen are MEN.
presenting: a picture of poor shot. a lady BOBO shooter. poor thingy winky can’t shot for nuts.
—
and everyone did DDR (dance dance revolution) at the arcade.
final verdict: we can’t DDR for our lives.
okay, it’s NOT the dancer. the DDR machine must be damage or something
Sphere: Related Contentstreetdirectory.com is dying
and so it seems, streetdirectory.com, the mighty tool of singaporeans is dying. dying from a potential lawsuit that comes from none other than the local authorities. someone (a friend) told his royal highness that they were sued by the government, others say it’s the traffic police forces. then again, his royal highness didn’t really learn of this until he tried accessing the search function of the website.
and here’s what streetdirectory.com has to say…
(click on the picture to enlarge)
so, here’s a call to action from ~ we are chiwasu ?! (a.k.a site of his royal highness)
- for all those who cares, for all those who misses streetdirectory.com, for all those who had once been enlightened by the services of streetdirectory.com, for all those whom the site has saved your hides, for all that matter, let’s join the Facebook | I miss Streetdirectory.com facebook group and air your views.
- there’s even an online petition in that facebook group. it may not seem like much, but it’s still an effort being done (though the local authorities would probably win the case. sighs…) BUT, still… JOIN!)
- just maybe. someone should do a ‘SAVE STREETDIRECTORY.COM, DON’T STAY A VIRGIN” movement prior to the SAVE THE INTERNET, DON’T STAY A VIRGIN movement. lol.
still, the results / verdict ought to be out by now. it has long since past 15 may, 2008 (fyi, it’s already 18 may, 2008). hmmm… unless the site editor’s already behind bars?
oops…
ARE YOU LOST without STREETDIRECTORY.COM? i sure am lost.
